In this Section: Taking Notes Projects |
Each Cyber High course consists of 5 units. Each unit contains chapters, content pages, activities, essay questions, practice pages (math courses only), a glossary, bibliography and quizzes, and may contain a performance based learning project.
Students must navigate through the unit pages using the Table of Contents or the Back and Next buttons located at the bottom of each page.
When a unit is complete, the teacher can use the quiz grades (where applicable) as a diagnostic tool in determining when to approve the student to take an exam.
Students can navigate through courses using the Table of Contents located on the left side of the course page or using
the Back and Next buttons
located at the bottom of the course pages.
Do NOT use the Browser's Back and Next buttons that appear at the top of each page. These buttons navigate through the Cyber High application. The Back and Next buttons located at the bottom of the course pages navigate the actual course.

Cyber High activities are designed to help the student self-assess their comprehension of the subject matter presented. Students can print the activities before or after entering responses to the questions by clicking on the print icon located in the upper right corner of the screen.
Activities may also include review links located at the bottom of the page. Clicking on the review link will open the review page in a new window.
There are three main types of activities in Cyber High:
Self-grading
Self-grading activities contain radio, checkbox and fill-in-the-blank
answer selections. These activities contain a "Check Answers"
button at the bottom of the activity that will check the student's
responses against the expected or correct response for each question.
Most self-grading activities will display correctly answered
questions in green and incorrectly answered questions in red. An
overall score for the activity will also be displayed.
Essay
Essay questions are presented to the user from within activity pages
and include a link to the Text Editor installed with the Cyber High
program. Essays cannot be saved on the user's hard drive, but
instead are saved and stored on the Cyber High server for easy access
from within the course and unit where the save occurred. Please
see Using the Text Editor, Paint Tool and Calculator
topic for more information.
Short Answer
Short answer questions require the student to enter an answer for an
activity question in a text box that is not self-graded. The
student must enter the answer in the text box provided and print the
page for the teacher to check the student's response. Short
answer pages are not used in newer Cyber High courses and are being
phased out of older Cyber High courses in an ongoing effort to improve
the Cyber High program.

Cyber High performance based learning projects are designed to help students understanding digital literacy, web 2.0 tools, and to use the knowledge acquired within the unit content and through their own research to create digital representations of what they've learned and to apply that knowledge to real-world problem solving.
Performance based learning projects consist of the following elements:
A digital literacy element designed to teach students valuable
information about 21st century communication tools, internet safety,
and research tips.
A list of topics relevant to the information studied in the
unit from which students can select the topic that is most interesting
or meaningful to them.
A serious of internet communication mediums that students can use to complete the projects that include, blogs, wikis, songs and podcasts, videos, presentations, and stories. In addition, many project require the student to perform research online or at their local library.
Performance Based Learning Projects are collaborative and can be viewed by students at other schools, if allowed by the school administrator. These projects are available by default to all students. School administrators and teachers may elect to remove access to these projects for all students or specific students. Cyber High currently offers at least on Performance Based Learning Project in one unit of each course.
Practice pages are provided within most math courses and work much like
an activity with one major exception. Practice pages not only allow
the student to check their answers but will show the student the correct
answer to each individual question.
Students using the Practice Pages check each individual answer by clicking on the Check Answer button located next to each question on the practice page. A pop-up message will appear alerting the student that the answer selected is correct or incorrect. Students with incorrect answers can use the Show Answer button to see the correct answer to each individual question. This is very similar to a student's ability to check their answers to activities in the back of the book.

Text
Editor
The text editor is a standard editor that will allow the user to perform
common tasks found in most text editing programs. Help in using
the text editor tools is available by clicking on the help
link within the text editor.
Documents created
in the text editor are stored on the Cyber High Server and are not
available locally. Only the user who has saved the document
has access to the document and only from within the course and unit
where the file was originally created and saved. For example,
a student who has created and saved an essay for Biology A Unit 2
needs to return to Biology A Unit 2 to open the file for editing or
printing.
Some features specific to Cyber High are explained below:
Create
a New Document: Click on this button to open a new document
in the editor. Note: When opening a
new document all unsaved changes to the currently open document
will be lost.
Open
a Saved Document: To open a previously saved document the
user must login and return to the course and unit they were in
when the document was saved.
Save
a Document: When a document is saved within a course, it
is saved on the Cyber High server, not
locally. The user will be asked to provide an Essay
Name for the saved document. It is extremely important
to name the file something that is associated with the task being
performed. Some activities will require the student to save
different versions of the same document so that the teacher can
see the progression of work (i.e., idea, outline, rough draft
and final draft). In this case, the user should name the
document something that will be easily recognizable in each format
such as, activity-26-idea, actiivty-26-outline, activity-26-rough_draft,
activity-26_final-draft.
Note that
saved documents can only be retrieved by the student and only
from within the course and unit where the original document was
saved.
Print
the Document: Users can print from the text editor just
as they would from within an activity. However, unlike other
activities, documents printed from the text editor will not automatically
include the user's name and school information.
Paint
Tool
The paint tool is an easy-to-use application with various options for
creating straight or free-form lines, shapes and text. Students
can print drawings created using the Paint Tool but cannot save drawings.
If the user needs to save a drawing, the user must use a paint
tool provided by the school if one is available. Specific help
on using all of the features within the Paint tool is not currently
provided.
Calculator
The calculator is an easy-to-use application that will allow the student
to use standard calculator features for math equations and activities
within the Cyber High course work. The calculator is a standard
calculator. If the user needs to use more advanced features,
the user must use a calculator with those features. Specific
help on using all of the features within the Calc tool is not currently
provided.

Quizzes are available in all Cyber High courses. Quizzes will appear sequentially within the course content of each unit. Quizzes should be taken in the order they appear as the student navigates through the course. A final quiz,, which contains 20 questions appears at the end of each unit. The final quiz can be used to determine a student's readiness to take the final exam. Teachers can view the Quiz Detail Report for detailed information on student's quiz progress.
The Workbook Quiz Approval page is displayed in the Main Cyber High menu tab. This approval system is for workbook users only. Cyber High quizzes do not require an approval and are automatically available to students when they have been approved to take a Cyber High course. Do not approve or use workbook quizzes as an alternative to asses Cyber High students.
